Kolkata: In less than 24 hours, the police cracked the murder mystery of a 52-year-old woman and arrested two persons including a minor.Shambhu Koyal, who used to work as a help of the woman, was apprehended first and then another minor who assisted him in the actwas also picked up in connection with the murder the woman, whose body was recovered from an apartment at Tagore Park in Kasba on Saturday late afternoon.The sleuths had detained Shambhu since Saturday night after his tower location was found to be in and around the apartment of the victim, during the afternoon, which was the probable time when the murder was committed. As per his statement, the woman had taken Rs 27,000 from him but was refusing to return it. This prompted him to kill the lady,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Praveen Kumar Tripathi.”Prima facie it seems to be a murder for personal gain as some expensive articles have gone missing. The woman’s head was banged against a wall and then she was smothered with a pillow to ensure death,” a senior police officer said. Also Read – Speeding Jaguar crashes into Merc, 2 B’deshi bystanders killedSleuths informed that Shambhu had given the amount to the lady as a loan without the knowledge of his family.He had taken the money from a person and had given it to the woman.This person was pressuring Koyal to return his money but he failed as the woman was dilly dallying.The victim who was a high ranked officer of National Atlas & Thematic Mapping Organisation (based in Salt Lake) led a lavish life.Shambhu had initially claimed before the police that he had come to the victim’s house at around 12 noon and then had gone to buy some vegetables for her under her instructions. He returned within an hour and left after he was told by the victim to come again later in the afternoon.However, his cell phone tower location revealed that he was in and around the scene of the crime thorough out.The fact was confirmed after the sleuths questioned Koyal’s mother, who earlier used to work as a domestic help at Chowdhury’s apartment.The minor, who assisted him in the crime, was the son of a maid servant who had left work a month ago.The victim used to live alone on the second floor o fthe apartment. Her husband died three years back and his son Sayom Chowdhury is settled in US.
