The Ghana Football Association has projected Ghana female football will reign supreme in Africa and the world in the next two years. This projection is a result of a strategic plan being executed the FAFemale soccer in Ghana is yet to reach a high pecking order considering performances of the national women’s teams in major international tournaments. The Black Queens, Princesses and Maidens are yet to go beyond the group stage of any World Cup, with the Queens failing to qualify for the 2012 African Women’s championship in Ethiopia, for the first time since its inception in 1991.President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantekyi has affirmed in an interview on Joy Sports Link the situation will change in the next two years.“I think that we are on course. We have done a lot of investment in school girl football and I can tell you that the future of African football is ours. In the next two years, we will be winning the African Championships and we will do that on a sustainable basis.”
The Augsburg lateral defender is impressed by his output at the Nations Cup and looks forward to the next editionGhana international Abdul Baba Rahman has said he bagged a lot of experience at his debut Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea last month. The 20-year-old Augsburg left-back was instrumental as Ghana reached the finals for the second time in five years losing to Ivory Coast on penalties.“It was great representing my country in Africa’s biggest soccer tournament and I hope I can play in more Afcons and give my best for my country,” Rahman told Goal Ghana.“It was a great tournament and I think the team improved game after game as we started to understand each other and started working for each other. That is how come I improved game after game also.”Rahman, who is a transfer target of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Dortmund and AS Roma, was awarded by Augsburg over the weekend for placing second at the Afcon. “It is great to receive such an honour from my club, I am feeling very elated and glad and I thank them for the nice gesture,” Rahman added.
Dodgers hit seven home runs, sweep Colorado Rockies Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error Fire danger is on Dave Roberts’ mind as Dodgers head to San Francisco How Dodgers pitcher Ross Stripling topped the baseball podcast empire “I’m not worrying about whether a pitch is a strike or a ball at this point,” said Grandal, whose fifth-inning shot to right field helped knock out Anibal Sanchez. “I’m just looking to see the ball and hit the ball.”The Braves saw Kershaw and actually hit him more than most people, since they only struck out three times. Two of those strikeout victims were the final two batters Kershaw faced. He delighted the crowd when he walked out for the ninth inning, but when pinch-hitter Tyler Flowers appeared, Manager Dave Roberts removed Kershaw for Kenley Jansen. Roberts got boos and Kershaw more cheers when both came into the dugout.“We were getting quick outs,” Grandal said. “They were aggressive, but everything was working and there was a lot of soft contact. The fact that the pitch counts stayed down was good, it was something we were keeping an eye on. He just had great command throughout.”It was the first time since 2009 that Kershaw had pitched a Game 2 in a series when Game 1 was also an option. He responded with possibly his postseason game ever. He held an opponent scoreless for the first time since a seven-inning beauty in Game 2 of the NLCS vs. Chicago two years ago. He was pushed back then because he had relieved in Game 5 of the Division Series against Washington three nights before. His opponent Friday, Sanchez, has thrown a no-hitter, has pitched an immaculate inning (nine pitches, nine strikes), has won an ERA title in the American League and once threw seven shutout innings in a postseason victory over the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. Still, nobody was happier to see him than Machado. The hitter-vs-pitcher stats don’t really show much until you get to 30 at-bats or so. But Machado was 7 for 15 against Sanchez with three home runs. Here, he shot a 3-and-0 fastball into the left-field pavilion for the requisite 2-0, first inning lead.In the fifth, Grandal pounded an 0-and-2 pitch into right field for a 3-0 lead, and Sanchez was lifted for Max Fried (Harvard-Westlake) later in the inning.Kershaw’s perceived snub was a small sacrifice compared to what Grandal endured last year. As Austin Barnes got hot, Grandal was reduced to 11 at-bats during the entire postseason. Grandal bounced back with 24 homers this year and an .815 OPS that was just .001 off his career high. He also was the facilitator for Buehler, Hyun-jin Ryu and a rotation that has fallen into the slots like a compliant roulette ball.Meanwhile, Kershaw was excellent, at least from the second pitch on. His first was hammered solidly into left-center by Ronald Acuña Jr., who got a double out of it. But Kershaw curved a third strike past Nick Markakis after a difficult at-bat and screamed his way off the mound and into the dugout.Related Articles Cody Bellinger homer gives Dodgers their first walkoff win of season LOS ANGELES — Yasmani Grandal said his next task will be to keep Walker Buehler from rolling into Atlanta at 100 mph.It will take a heavy set of brakes to slow down everyone else. The Dodgers have played 18 innings against the Braves in this NL Division Series and have led after each. They won Game 2, 3-0, with Grandal handling the longest postseason start of Clayton Kershaw’s career, with Grandal and Manny Machado delivering all three runs with two homers. In golf, they would push the fences back, or maybe station a windmill to blow all the long drives foul. But nobody here has any interest in homer-proofing Dodger Stadium, not when every night is a souvenir giveaway. Now they test the limits of SunTrust Park, which will play host to its first postseason game on Sunday. Dodgers’ Max Muncy trying to work his way out of slow start The rest of it was infield practice. Atlanta was retired on ground ball outs 13 times in its first six innings. The only other hit in that span was a comebacker by Ender Inciarte that Kershaw knocked down as he spun around, and threw awkwardly to first. There were four other bouncers right back to the lefty, each a challenge but none successful. The difference now is that the Dodgers aren’t as linked psychologically to whatever Kershaw does. They have such starting depth, with Rich Hill as the fourth guy, that he no longer has to carry all the mail. The fact that Kershaw still thinks of himself as the Caped Crusader doesn’t mean he has to be.In past years the Dodgers have used Brett Anderson in a Game 3 and nearly used Ricky Nolasco. Now they use Buehler. Big difference.“I just have to keep Walker from getting too amped up on Sunday,” Grandal said. Considering all the Dodgers have endured, that’s known as a first-world problem.
