TRANSPORTATION/PUBLIC WORKS–Road Improvements in GuysboroughCounty Residents of Guysborough County will soon see more roadimprovements in their area. A contract worth more than $1 million has been awarded to repave8.5 kilometres of Trunk 7. “This repaving project will improve driving conditions for thosetravelling along Trunk 7 to the beautiful eastern shore of theprovince,” said Ron Russell, Minister of Transportation andPublic Works. “Drivers can look forward to a smoother ride on astronger road.” The work will begin 1.3 kilometres west of the Liscomb River andextend easterly to the MacKinley Point Loop Road. The project was awarded to Chapman Bros. Construction Ltd., andwork is expected to be completed by Sept. 30. The Department of Transportation and Public Works highways division manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in NovaScotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincialferries. Staff provide services from district offices inBridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
